Tom is founder and President of SCC. Tom began his career as a retail banker for Citibank in the mid 70’s and in the mid 80’s was a co-founder of a community bank in Connecticut.
He began his coffee career at Seattle’s Best Coffee (SBC) in 1992 as Vice President of their wholesale division and was responsible for the division’s rapid national growth. He was then in charge of SBC’s coffee department responsible for all quality assurance and training efforts and later had responsibility for SBC’s international division including all international growth and operations. Following SBC, Tom was President and CEO of Premium Espresso LLC., a U.S. subsidiary of Lavazza and was responsible for the development and implementation of a turn key small format retail operation.
After founding SCC in 2002, and as part of a consulting assignment Tom was acting President and CEO of NFCGC Enterprises, LLC. between April 2006 and February 2007. This U.S. subsidiary of the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia was responsible for the Juan Valdez Café launch in the U.S.
Tom has over 30 years of professional sales, marketing and management experience and over 20 years of experience in all aspects of the specialty coffee industry. Tom is a regular speaker at coffee conferences around the world and has visited over 35 countries as part of his participation in the coffee industry. Tom is a licensed Q Arabica Grader.
Patty, formally a CPA, brings 20 years of knowledge as an accountant/controller to assist our clients to understand the financial realities of the coffee business and to help in the planning and execution of their business strategies. Focused exclusively on the coffee industry since 2005, Patty is knowledgeable on all business and practical aspects of green coffee sourcing, importing, roasting, packaging, retailing, management and operations.
Prior to SCC, she has worked in public accounting, private industry, and college accounting instruction.
